I connect food back to my upbringing. Every Sunday, I would cook a meal for my entire extended family alongside my Grandmother. Her kitchen was a nurturing space for play, learning, and connecting with the past. One would think that the things that are currently happening/ have happened in your own life would have more influence over you than the past but it's the opposite. Memories are solidified by repetition- such as cooking the same things at the same times. Cooking is creating the past through the present.
