In previous generations, crocheted domestic products were used to enliven and embellish homes. They were evidence of a female presence and existence. Today, these are objects that signify poverty and an antiquated time. They are seen as sad, lonely objects. They are forgotten, dust-collectors.
‘Looking In’ studies these objects in their contemporary environment- serving as window curtains. The work is unsettling as the viewer realizes they are invading a private space.
